Measurement Hints & Tips
All of our ropes are custom made in our factory to your individual order, so you are not limited by 'standard' sizes like some retailers offer. This means that you can have a rope banister tailored exactly to your own specification.
Measurements
Carefully measure your stairway for the length of rope you require. If a slight drape is preferred add 5% to the taut length of the rope (all ropes will stretch slightly with use) however, the total length should be the measurement between the inside of the end knots as shown above.
All of our rope banisters are made from rope that is specially made for this purpose, but please remember that all natural products have some variation with humidity and temperature etc. We usually work in metric measurements to a tollerance of +/- 10mm, but please contact us to discuss your requirements if you need an exact measurement for a special situation.
If you need any help with determining the best length to order, call us on 01737 823053 and we'll be happy to help.
How many brackets do I need?
We recommend at least one bracket for every metre of rope for best safety and performance. Our handy pricing calculator on the Online Shop page will automatically calculate the typical number of brackets for the length you specify. Do remember that you may need additional brackets for corners or where your layout requires it. When ordering look at how many brackets we are recommending and enter the number of extras you need.
Do I need Wooden Mounts?
Our wooden bracket mounts are an optional extra. In many applications it is a matter of style and taste as to whether to directly mount the standard brackets to the wall or to use our wooden mounts. They look good stained, varnished, painted or left natural. Where fitting a stair rope to a wall where the plaster is not perfectly sound it is often advantageous to first fix a wooden mount to the wall with long fixings and then screw the brackets to the wooden mount.
